Carcassonne agglo

 

Carcassonne Agglo results from the application of the Chevènement law of July 12th, 1999 on strengthening and simplifying the intercommunal cooperation. It is a Public Establishment, of Intercommunal Cooperation (EPCI), which includes 82 communes forming a set of more than 110 000 people.

 

THEMATIC COMPETENCES AT THE SERVICE OF THE PEOPLE

Carcassonne Agglo applies the competences transferred to it in lieu and place of the commune members.

KEY DATES :

    • February 2001: Study on the operational readiness of the Agglomeration Community.
    • May/June 2001: The Municipal Councils of the communes belonging to the first and second crown of Carcassonne approved the principle of the creation of Agglo.
    • September 2001: Creation of the statutes of Agglo.
    • December 2001: Creation of the Community of Agglomeration of the Carcassonne with 16 member communes: Berriac, Carcassonne, Caux et Sauzens, Cavanac, Cazilhac, Couffoulens, Fontiès d’Aude, Lavalette, Montirat, Palaja, Pennautier, Pezens, Roullens, Trèbes, Villedubert, Villemoustaussou.
    • May 2002: Expansion of Agglo with 4 new communes: Leuc, Mas des Cours, Preixan, Rouffiac d’Aude.
    • March 2003: Integration of Social Action competences.
    • June 2004: Extension of Carcassonne Agglo with 1 new commune: Villefloure.
    • January 1st 2009: Integration of water and sanitation competences, and Urban Renewal Program competences.
    • April 3rd, 2009: Extension of the Agglo with 1 new commune: Montclar.
    • January 2010: Extension of the Agglo with 1 new commune: Alairac and the municipal library of Carcassonne is transferred to the Agglo.
    • April 2010: The media library of Rouffiac d'Aude is transferred to the Agglo.
    • September 2012: School Transport competences is taken by theAgglo.
    • January 2013: Expansion of Carcassonne Agglo. Passage from 23 to 73 communes.
    • January 2014: New election, new governance. Launch of the territory project MON2020.
    • January 2017: Enlargement of the territory with the integration of 9 new communes: Badens, Barbaira, Blomac, Capendu, Comigne, Douzens, Floure, Marseillette and Monze.
